Setting

One of the settings in Charlie and the chocolate factory is Charlie's house. Charlie's house is very dirty and very old, it's not a safe place to live.

Another setting, well actually the most important setting, is the chocolate factory. The chocolate factory is an amazing place with Oompa loompas, edible grass, a chocolate river and much more.

Summary

Charlie lived in a beaten up house, and lives with his parents and both pairs of grandparents. For nearly 15 years no one has seen anyone come out of Willy Wonka's factory. One day Willy Wonka made a contest that 5 lucky kids will find a golden ticket in their chocolate bars. For Charlie's birthday he gets a chocolate bar, but he doesn't win. But one day he finds some money on the ground and he buys a chocolate bar with it, AND HE WINS! Charlie decides to take one of his grandpas who used to work at the factory. Charlie and the four other kids have an adventure. Willy Wonka watches as each kid breaks the rules and gets their punishment, until Charlie is the only kid left. Charlie gets rewarded, by him and his family living in the factory, and getting to take over the factory when Willy Wonka retires.

Theme

I think the theme of this book is, follow the rules and you'll be rewarded. I think that because Charlie was the only kid who didn't break the rules and he got to live in the factory and own it.

Fun Facts

Gene Wilder said he'll only agree to play the part of Willy Wonka if he'll get to do a somersault, in the opening when he meets the kids.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

The chocolate river was made with real chocolate and water and cream.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

The kids reactions of the candy garden is real, it was their first time on that part of the set.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

When they were in the boat on the chocolate river, the Oompa loompa who was pretending to steer the boat actually thought he was steering it, the director didn't tell him so it looks more real.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

Veruca is a medical term for wart, which I think suits her personality.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

The actors who played Veruca, and Violet both had a crush on the actor who played Charlie. Everyday they would take turns to spend time with him. We don't know if he liked them back.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

The scene when Augustus was filmed for winning a golden ticket was a real German restaurant. Because they filmed the movie in Germany, the actors spent a lot of their lunches there.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

Roald named Willy Wonka after a toy, it was like a boomerang.

Hand Drawn Decorative Line

The Oompa Loompas were 10 total in the original film, however, in the 2005 movie there was only one man that acted as all of the Oompa Loompas.
